Overview

NFIB is a recurrent translocation partner with HMGIC in pleiomorphic adenomas, though it is only one of several genes that rearrange with HMGIC in this syndrome. NFIB is also a recurrent translocation partner with HMGA2 in lipomas. NFIB copy number is increased in a fraction of squamous cell carcinomas and "triple negative" breast cancers. Most of what is known of the potential roles for NFIB come from studies of Nfib knockout mice, where loss of Nfib affects brain development and is lethal due to a failure in lung maturation.
